Pop Up’s

The Mobile Darkroom is heading back to Aotearoa

In 2027, Tintype Central will be back on the road.

I’ll be taking my little mobile darkroom - a 1950’s bondwood caravan, north through Aotearoa for a limited series of wet plate portrait sessions and pop-up studios.

Each stop is a chance to step inside the darkroom and have your portrait made using the same 1850s photographic process that I’ve been working with for years. No negatives, no digital capture and no retouching - just light, chemistry, glass or aluminium, and a one-of-a-kind photographic object made by hand.

I’ll only be in each location for a short time, with a limited number of portrait sessions available at each stop.

So if you’ve been meaning to have a wet plate portrait made, this is your chance.

Limited sessions. Limited locations. One very slow way of making a photograph.

Portraits on Polaroid

Dates to be announced.

There’s still nothing quite like watching your portrait develop in your hands. Made using vintage Polaroid Land Cameras and original instant films, these portraits celebrate the beauty of analogue photography. Available in colour or black & white, each Polaroid is a unique photographic object to take home and keep.

Portraits on Film

Dates to be announced.

Before photography became instant, every frame mattered.

Step into the studio and experience a slower, more considered approach to portraiture. Captured with a vintage Rolleiflex TLR and black & white 120 film, these portraits draw on the timeless tradition of studio photography - direct, honest and beautifully crafted.

Professional scans and two, fine art 10x8 digital prints are included, with handcrafted fibre-based silver gelatin prints available as an option.
